The Rochester NY Chesterton Society wants everyone to be able to read Chesterton with us — online and in person. This statement describes how we have tried to make www.rochesterton.com accessible and how to tell us if something does not work for you.
1. Our goal
We aim for the Site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. The Site is maintained by volunteers, and we review it whenever we add new pages.
2. What we have done
- Semantic HTML with a logical heading structure, landmarks and a “Skip to content” link.
- Descriptive alternative text for every informative image, with captions crediting the source.
- Text and background colours chosen for strong contrast; body text at 18 pixels in a classic serif typeface.
- Full keyboard navigation with visible focus outlines; the mobile menu, accordions and video player can be operated and closed with the keyboard (Escape closes dialogs).
- Form fields with visible labels, clear error messages announced to screen readers, and no time limits.
- Animations that respect your system’s “reduce motion” setting.
- Responsive layout that works from small phones to large screens and when zoomed to 200%.
- Print-friendly article and policy pages.
3. Known limitations
- Older conference recordings on YouTube do not all have accurate captions. YouTube’s automatic captions are available on most videos.
- Some historic illustrations contain small decorative lettering that is described in captions rather than reproduced as text.
4. Accessibility at our events
Our recent conference venues have been accessible to wheelchair users. If you need seating near the speakers, a large-print programme, help with lunch or any other accommodation, please tell us when you register or write to us beforehand and we will do our best to help.
5. Feedback
If you find any part of the Site difficult to use, please email [email protected] with the page address and a short description of the problem. We will try to reply within five working days and fix the problem or provide the information in another format.
