This Cookie Policy explains how www.rochesterton.com (the “Site”) uses cookies and similar browser-storage technologies, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy. The short version: we use almost none, and none for advertising or tracking.
1. What are cookies and local storage?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device. “Local storage” is a similar feature built into web browsers that lets a site remember a small piece of information on your device. Both can be “first-party” (set by the site you are visiting) or “third-party” (set by another service whose content appears on the page), and “session” (deleted when you close the browser) or “persistent” (kept until they expire or you delete them).
2. What the Site uses
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
rcs-cookie | First-party local storage (strictly necessary) | Remembers that you have answered the cookie notice, so it is not shown on every page. | Until you clear your browser storage |
That is the only item the Site itself stores. The Site sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics, advertising, social-media or tracking cookies. All fonts, stylesheets, scripts and images are served from our own server, so visiting a page does not contact any third party.
3. YouTube videos
Our conference recordings are hosted on YouTube. To protect your privacy, the Site does not load any YouTube content when a page opens. Only when you press a play button does the Site load the video player from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. In that mode YouTube states that it does not store information that personalises your viewing based on the embedded video unless you play it; once you play, YouTube (Google LLC) may set cookies or use local storage under its own policies. If you prefer, every recording also has a plain link that opens the video directly on YouTube, where your existing YouTube settings apply.
4. Other links
Links to Google Maps, St. Irenaeus Ministries and other websites take you away from the Site. Those sites may use their own cookies, which are governed by their own policies.
5. Your choices
- Cookie notice. Choosing “Accept” or “Essential only” both simply hide the notice; because we use no optional cookies, the Site behaves identically either way.
- Browser settings. You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. Doing so will not stop the Site from working; the cookie notice will simply appear again.
- Videos. If you do not want any YouTube cookies, do not press play, or use the “Open on YouTube” link in a private browsing window.
Guides to managing storage are available from your browser’s help pages (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and others).
6. Legal background
Laws such as the EU ePrivacy Directive and the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations require consent for non-essential cookies. The single item the Site stores is strictly necessary to remember your notice choice, and third-party video cookies are only possible after you actively press play.
7. Changes
If we ever add new cookies or similar technologies — for example, privacy-friendly visitor statistics — we will update this page and the cookie notice first, and ask for consent where required.
